Week 4 - Term 2

Good afternoon parents,

I hope that you all had a chance to watch the wedding on the weekend...I love me a good wedding! I loved the dress and the flowers...a hopeless romantic I am!!

I was wiped out on the couch with a sore back which was no fun but gave me a good excuse to watch all the highlights of the wedding...again...and then watch the Eagles school Richmond! I am thinking I might need to book those GF tickets if anyone has an in...please let me know!

REMINDERS - WEEK 4

NAPLAN - A very big well done to all of the children! I was very proud to see them putting their test taking skills into practice and persevering when it got hard!

Go Fish Musical - Please make sure that all costume items are in to Mrs Horrocks by tomorrow afternoon. Here is a screenshot of the email that was sent home which outlines what is needed for each character.

Stationery Items - If I can please ask that you take some time this week to check your child's stationery. There are a large number of students missing pencils, red pens, rulers, erasers and sharpeners. As you can appreciate this creates a lot of anxiety for the students when they don't have what they need. I am fresh out of supplies that we had stockpiled as the students often don't return the items that were borrowed. It also makes it hard on those students who do have those items as they are constantly being borrowed.

OUR LEARNING - WEEK 4

In our literacy lessons this week we have been looking at Sensational Story Starters...these include:
  • Action
  • Description of a setting
  • Description of a character
  • Dialogue
  • Rhetorical Question
  • Statement
  • Onomatopoiea
We discussed the importance of using one of these to 'hook' the reader into the story. Over the coming weeks we will begin to plan, draft, edit and publish a Dreamtime story using one of these starters.

In our maths sessions we have been looking at time...this is proving to be quite tricky for the students. Wherever possible, please make sure that you are drawing attention to hours, minutes, quarter to and quarter past.

HOMEWORK - WEEK 4

Please see below the homework that has been assigned for the week.

Reading - All reading is to be written into their reading log, including the name of the book and number of pages and then signed by you.

Please note - Reading books are to be changed on a Monday only. At the moment I am getting dribs and drabs which is not easy to facilitate so I will stand firm on this.

Spelling - Students are to complete a LCWC of their list words for the week.

I ask that students do not go ahead and complete all of their LCWC in one day as this means that they are not seeing the words again until they are tested on Friday and this doesn't help with their retention of the concept being covered.

Sight Words - If you can please work with your child to complete these every night. It is great to ask your child the definition of the word or to use that word in a sentence as well if you have time?

I will move ahead on retesting students this week for those that have had theirs for some time.

Mental Maths - Students are to complete Days 1-4 of Unit 14. This is marked daily in class each morning. It is fine if students work ahead on this.

Please see the link below for assistance if needed.

Times Tables - Activity Sheet - 5 x Times Tables. Students are asked to write out their tables in order on Monday and Tuesday nights and then complete them out of order on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Have a great week,

Mrs Delane
