Week 5 Check In

Good afternoon parents,

I hope this update finds you rested and relaxed after the long weekend? My family and I were lucky enough to head down to the fireworks on Sunday night (along with everyone else) and enjoyed the show...how cool! My kids have not seen fireworks in real life before and I loved watching the joy on their faces!!

Also loved having a bit of a jig to Mitch Baker and Dallas Royal...such good tunes! An amazing event held in our town and definitely one of the many joys of living in a small town.

A huge well done to all of our swimmers today. It is always a massive day and many can feel pushed right out of their comfort zone. I was so impressed by the kids willingness to keep going and going...so much so I was even inspired to join in the staff V student race...I feel that the fact that we won was due solely to the Year 6 students taking it easy on us and that many of them had already swum multiple times that day! None the less, bragging rights are ours for this year!

I am sure there will be some sleepy heads at home tonight. Tell them Mrs Delane said they are to go to bed early if you think it might help! If your child is missing any items from today, please check in at the front office.

 REMINDERS - WEEK 5

Year 4 Family and Eucharist Commitment Mass - is on this Saturday 7th March beginning at 6pm. All students are expected to attend.

Absence - on Friday 6th March I will be conducting IPI Reading testing on our beautiful kiddies! I will still be around at school popping in and out and grabbing different students. This is nothing for them to be concerned about or to prepare for...more of an FYI. I will tell the kids tomorrow.

Swimming Lessons - these begin next week and will run for 2 weeks (Weeks 6 & 7). Our specialist timetable will be slightly adjusted. With this being said, please note that our sports day for the next two weeks will be on Tuesday's.

We will be leaving school at 11.45am to head down to Old Dunsborough for our lesson to begin at 12.05pm. The students will have a 50 minute lesson and we will back at school for 1pm. Canteen will be as normal for these weeks.

Our classroom schedule will run as normal with a slightly modified program to fit in around swimming lessons and the adjusted specialist timetable.

Please make sure that your child comes to school each day with their bathers, towel, goggles and thongs to wear to and from the beach. Some extra lunch might not go astray! Students are to wear their sports uniform for the two weeks of swimming to make life a little easier!

Gathering Time Reminder - Due to the shorter period of time, we are finding that this time is becoming quite rushed and there are lots of interruptions.

I love having you come in to class but if I can ask you to be mindful that this time is for the students to get themselves ready for the day. It is important for them that my attention is focused on them to support their independence and personal organisation.

Stationery Items - it is about that time of the year where the 900 glue sticks and pencils that you sent in have mysteriously grown legs and disappeared. If I can ask you to check in with your child to see if they need anything from their spares bag.

OUR LEARNING -

Last week we spent a fair bit of time familiarising ourselves with our laptops. We spent a lot of time looking at One Note...this is a great app that we will use a lot. Learning information, homework, spelling words and reading planners will all be placed here for the students to access through our Content Library. This means that students are not able to edit this. The other files that you will see is where students will be able to upload their work as asked.

The other app you have hopefully seen is Teams. This is a great way for the students to connect and discuss school based bits and pieces as well as where I can place work or websites that I would like the students to use.

Next week we will begin creating our digital portfolio, this is where the students will have the opportunity to upload work from class and reflect on their learning. Keep your eyes peeled!

If you haven't already, please have your child show you how to get in to these and have a good look around. This shows your child that you are interested in what they are doing and learning on their devices and reaffirms your ownership.

HOMEWORK - WEEK 5

We have given the students a new homework grid for this week, it has a Lenten focus that will be helpful for the students to think about. If I can also ask you to check out the upcoming events and reminders section that has also been added.

We have kept the same sound for this week as it is a short one but we have given the students new words to practice.

Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you on Saturday night!

Caitlin
