Week 8 Update

Good afternoon Parents,

Welcome to Week 8!

REMINDERS

Easter Egg Donation - All families are asked to donate an Easter egg or bunny for the annual Easter Egg Raffle. This is a fantastic fundraiser for the school with all money being raised going to Project Compassion.

Project Compassion Donation - It would be great if all of the students could find an extra dollar or two to donate to Project Compassion. We are only a little ways off the target of $500 that we set to raise during Lent. All donations are gratefully received!

Holy Week - The Year 3/4 students will be sharing a reflection of the Resurrection on Thursday 29th May beginning at 9am in the Hall. We would love to have as many parents there as possible.

All students are asked to come dressed in a simple costume reflective of the times of Jesus...think a small sheet and a tea towel. If they can wear their uniform underneath their costume on the day please. If needed, they can bring it to get changed into afterwards.

OUR LEARNING

In Literacy we have just finished our Hot Task in which we again wrote a persuasive piece to Mr Wilkie to convince him not to lock away the sports equipment. It was great to see the improvement for many students in more closely following the structure of a persuasive text, using emotive and modality language and really trying hard to use the PEE in each paragraph.

Next we will be moving on to looking at writing Narratives. Students will be asked to plan an adventure story based on looking for a long lost treasure using a picture prompt.

It would be great if at night whilst you are reading with your child, you could be reading a narrative together and perhaps spend some time discussing what makes a really good one. Ask them to think about the character description, setting and how these elements can work together to really make the movie in our mind nice and clear!

In Maths we will begin looking at 2D shapes, perhaps you can play 'Spotto' to see how many 2D shapes can be seen in the kitchen, bathroom or in the car?

HOMEWORK - WEEK 8

Please see below the homework that has been assigned for the week.

Reading - All reading is to be written into their reading log, including the name of the book and number of pages and then signed by you.

Spelling - Students are to complete a LCWC of their list words for the week.

I ask that students do not go ahead and complete all of their LCWC in one day as this means that they are not seeing the words again until they are tested on Friday and this doesn't help with their retention of the concept being covered.

Sight Words - If you can please work with your child to complete these every night. It is great to ask your child the definition of the word or to use that word in a sentence as well if you have time?

Mental Maths - Students are to complete Days 1-4 of Unit 8. This is marked daily in class each morning. It is fine if students work ahead on this.

Please see the link below for assistance if needed.

Unit 8 - Place Value Subtraction

Times Tables - We are also asking students to write out their 3 times tables in their homework books. They are to be written as 1x3=3, 2x3=6...etc.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Have a great week,

Mrs Delane
