Week 3 Update

Good afternoon parents,

I hope that you enjoyed a wonderful weekend and got to spend some part of it outside enjoying this beautiful weather!

REMINDERS - WEEK 3

Parent Information Evening - is on Tuesday 19th February beginning at 6.30pm in the Hall before moving over to Year 4R for a whole class session at 7pm...we expect that you will be at home on the couch with a cup of tea by 8pm!

If you are unable to attend this meeting, we understand...please send us an email to let us know and we will send home the relevant information with your child on Wednesday.

Swimming Trials - The Year 4's will be leaving school at 9am to attend our swimming trials at the GLC in Busselton on Tuesday 19th February.

We ask that your child wears their bathers to school underneath their sports uniform to make life easier for them. They can wear thongs to school but they must bring their sneakers to put on after they return to school. They will need:
  • Swimming bag - preferably not their school bag
  • Bathers & Rashie
  • Thongs
  • Towel
  • Goggles
  • Packed recess

We will be back at school in time for lunch so your child can order on this day.

OUR LEARNING

We have been working very hard settling into our learning groups routine, we have been looking at the Visualising Strategy during our Reading Groups - this has been great for us to make sure that we are tuning into the details in the text to help add to the 'movies in our minds' as we read.

During our writing sessions we have been looking at how to write a good Narrative...we have looked at the structure needed to make it fun to write and fun to read...we also looked at the importance of using adjectives when describing our characters to really help our readers enjoy our story...we wrote a great description of The Incredible Hulk!  It was interesting to see that when we put the same character in different settings that how we describe them can change quite significantly!

Reading a good story is like riding a roller coaster...we want to help our readers experience a wide range of emotions to add to their enjoyment through our writing!

In maths we have been using our Number of the Day warm up strategy to help us lock in those need to know concepts as well as looking at Odd and Even Numbers. We will begin looking at Place Value and Expanded Notation this week which will be a lot of fun!

HOMEWORK - WEEK 3

Please see below for the homework assigned for this week:

1. Reading - Students are to read for 10 minutes each night and enter it into their Reading Log. They are to bring it to you to be signed each night.

2. Timetables practise this is the last week we are focusing on our 5 timestables. They will be tested at the end of the week! The students are to practise at least 5 times throughout the week at home. We are hoping that you are able to quiz them as often as possible to ensure their recall of their timestable facts is accurate and efficient. Please sign their Homework log when you have done this.

3. Mental Maths- Complete Unit 2, p.4&5. This will be marked in class each morning so please make sure your child includes this in their homework folder every morning.

4. Spelling - the students are to complete LSCWC with their new spelling words each night.

They are to also complete dictionary meanings for their words which are due on Friday morning.

Have a great week,

Mrs Delane
