Week 5 Has Arrived!

Good afternoon parents,

Welcome to another busy week in 4D. Thank you to those parents that were able to attend our Prayer Assembly last week...the students did a wonderful job and I was very proud. It can be really tough to stand up in front of the whole school to read...we set a very high bar for the classes to come!

REMINDERS - WEEK 5

Ash Wednesday Mass - We will be coming together tomorrow morning at 9am and once again the Year 4's are leading the whole school in our Mass. We would love to see you there if you can make it.

Those students that have reading parts still need a few more run throughs. Can you please check with your child if they have a reading and make sure that they practice it in front of you. We would like them to focus on speaking slowly and clearly and holding the microphone on their chin...pull out the hairbrush from that one and reminisce about dancing in front of the mirror!

Swimming Lessons - Our swimming lessons begin next week, please take the time to check that your child has what they need and that it is all clearly labelled - please include underwear in this as there is always a pair left over that belongs to no one!

Your child can wear their bathers underneath their sports uniform if they are comfortable but we will also give time for them to get changed.
Please note - your child must come to school wearing their sneakers not thongs.

Your child will need:
  • bathers
  • towel
  • goggles
  • thongs
  • rashie
  • sports uniform - hooray, no ironing!
4D and Year 6 students will depart OLC at 12pm to head to the beach for our lessons which will run from 12:15 - 12:55. This will run for 2 weeks - 11th-18th March. We will run our normal learning program with adjustments made for our time at the beach.

Homework will run as normal.

Harmony Day -   March 29th 2019. Please see below the note from Julie Birch...we would love to have as many Year 4 parent helpers as possible!

Dear Parents,
We need you…..
On the 29th of March the students of Our Lady of the Cape Primary School will celebrate Harmony Day.
It is our aim to support the development of respect and appreciation for cultures other than their own in the students. To do this we would like to immerse the children in a rich variety of experiences that include food, music, visual arts and the development of a knowledge base of the cultural traditions of others.
Information is always best coming from those who have experienced the learning first hand so we are asking parents help out on the day.
We would love parents to lead an activity as part of a rotation between 9am and 11am on the day.  There would be no more than 20 children in each group. Each session would last 15 minutes and you would repeat this activity up to 6 six times.
If you were born in another country you may wish to present some photographs, samples of traditional foods, clothing, games etc. and tell the children about how you grew up. How is was different to here… and the same as here.
If you can play a musical instrument you may like to share your skills.  The children would love to listen.
Perhaps you can write some great haiku… or fold some tricky origami.
Those of you who teach dance, karate or craft may like to come and share your talents.
Children always love to cook.  We would love to have someone making pasta, pizza or some other cultural delight (remembering that you only have 15 minutes).
So… if you can help please email Julie Birch.

OUR LEARNING

The students have finished their setting descriptions and these will soon be up for display, it would be great if you could come in and check them out when you can!

In Maths this week we will begin looking at Number Patterns and how to explain the rule they follow to work out what comes next.

In Religion we have created some beautiful charcoal art which will be on display in the hall for our mass tomorrow. This piece focuses on the significance of Ash Wednesday and the number 40 as we move into this special time in our Church calendar.

HOMEWORK - WEEK 5

Please see below for the homework assigned for this week. There was some incomplete homework that was given in last week. If you can please support your child to complete all parts of their homework each week. This helps with their personal organisation reduces anxiety of getting in trouble when it is not done.

1. Reading - Students are to read for 10 minutes each night and enter it into their Reading Log. They are to bring it to you to be signed each night.

2. Timetables practise 6's The students are to practise at least 5 times throughout the week at home. We are hoping that you are able to quiz them as often as possible to ensure their recall of their timestable facts is accurate and efficient. Please sign their Homework log when you have done this.

3. Mental Maths- Complete Unit 4, p 8&9. This will be marked in class each morning so please make sure your child includes this in their homework folder every morning.

4. Spelling - the students are to complete LSCWC with their new spelling words each night.
They are to also complete dictionary meanings for their words which are due on Friday morning.

Have a great week,

Mrs Delane
