Welcome to Week 8
Good afternoon!
Wow...what a day! I am so grateful for our wood fire which can I say is getting a work out today! Phwoar!!
A very Happy Father's Day to all of our amazing 4DEL dads, your kids are very lucky to have you and I hope that you were able to do something that gave you joy today! As I say each week...it has been a very busy week in 4DEL. I am certainly looking forward to a full 5 day week this week...it feels like we have had a very interrupted few weeks but I am confident we will get through the last few weeks of term wrapping up all of our learning units ready to begin again next term!
We had two very deserving winners for our award cards this week! A huge congratulations to Lucas and Xavier for their hard work, I am so proud of them for the hard work that they have been putting into their learning. Keep up the great work boys!
REMINDERS - WEEK 8
School Photos - These are on this week on Thursday and Friday. As Thursday is our sports day, we are asking that students wear their full winter uniform (including their jumper) and bring their sneakers with them. Mrs Sinclair will modify her lesson to be mindful of the students still looking schmicko!
Walkie, Wheelie, Waste Free Wednesday - We had a fantastic turn out last week and are just a smidge behind 1P to win that class excursion! We are on again this week if you can assist your child with walking or wheeling and bringing a waste free lunch Thank you for your support!
Uthando Dolls - You may have heard of this amazing initiative that we have undertaken in Year 4 the last 3 years. We are super excited to announce that we will be working on these again starting next term. This is a massive undertaking and we are in need of your help! If you are a sewer, expert child wrangler, cutter or closet fashion designer then WE NEED YOU!
Check out the link to see the amazing work that is being done!
Starting next term, each Thursday afternoon we will be working on our dolls. They come from HQ ready to go but we will need to machine sew them together before the students can start to create them.
If any parents or grandparents are able to commit to helping each week or some weeks, we would love to have you come in. This project is impossible to undertake without parental help...Ben and I can only sew so much!
If you are able to assist (it doesn't have to be every week) please let me know!
OUR LEARNING - WEEK 7/8
As I may have mentioned a time or two...we have been working very hard! The students have finished their mini golf course designs and they have come up a treat. They have shown a good understanding of angles and 2D shapes which they used to create their courses. These will be up for display this week if you are able to pop in and check them out!
We have also finished up our Country V City Life persuasive text and the students have begun planning their own topics to discuss. We will finish those up and begin looking at some different kinds of poetry which will be a fun way for the students to experiment with some different kind of language!
In our Design Technologies unit, the students will choose a food or fibre source to begin researching. They will then create a poster sharing how their food or fibre is grown and used. They will be working on these in class.
Our science research project is ticking along well, we have looked at our different objects and the students have planned their experiment. The next part that we will be looking at this week is to think about one material they would change to make their object better. This will be looked at in class on Tuesday. After Tuesday, there will be an expectation that they will be spending some part of their homework working on putting the different parts of their power point together. They will have time on Friday to finalise these as well. I will have a presentation schedule set and ready so the students know which day in Week 9 or 10 they will be presenting.
- Spelling - LCWC each night and 3 words into sentences. Thank you so much for making sure that you are marking their words each night!!!
- Tables practice
- Champion Life - a challenge to be completed twice a week.
- Reading - out loud 10-15 minutes each night
- Additional Homework - Science Research Project
