Week 6 Is Here!

 Good morning parents,

Welcome to the week...I shared with the students today that we only had 19 days left of school! This was met with whoops of joy which I am sure was aimed at the 6 weeks holiday rather than leaving me. I can't believe how fast this year has gone...I remember March, June and August...throw in a bit of September and the rest has just been a blur!

I have said it before but I am beyond proud of how much these amazing kids have grown and matured...physically and emotionally!

They look a little different right!

A massive thank you to Misty Hearne for the delicious cupcakes on Friday...they were enjoyed by all! Thank you also, to those parents that were able to make it!

Congratulations to our Star Citizen award winner Cruz. A worthy recipient for this term's focus on Excellence!

A few reminders for the coming weeks...

Vinnies Hamper Appeal - This is a fantastic initiative that our school does every year in which we as a school community are asked to donate an item or two that can be used to help out some local families.

Year 4's are being asked to donate toiletry items such as shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, tooth brushes, hair lackeys etc. If you are able to, it would also be great if we could add in some extra yummies...think Christmas lunch (non perishable) at your place! Decorations are always a good filler as well!

Uthando Dolls - Due to the Scitech Incursion this week, we have had to change our session time to 8.45 - 9.45am...we would love to have you if you are free!

We will be spending the next two 2 weeks working on clothes and additional items such as a bag or a bit of bling for the dolls. Hopefully all students will have their dolls completed in Weeks 6 & & and then in Week 8 we are hoping that we can have some parent volunteers to come in and do some Quality Control on the finished product. If someone is happy to coordinate a date and time for this we would be very grateful! This would be an adult's only opportunity to tighten a stitch or two...!

School Disco - Is on this Friday 20th November beginning at 5pm. Your child brought a note home about this last week...check their bag if you haven't been given it already?

Pupil Free Day - A reminder that Monday 23rd November will be a pupil free day for the students...enjoy the extra long weekend!

Leave - I would like to let you all know that I will be taking leave in Week 8 (30th November - 4th December) as I will be having a minor procedure on the Monday and will need the week to recover.

Mrs Trish Dorrington will be in class with the students all week running my daily work pad. She will be ably supported by Mr Danaher and I will be in touch with her through the day...it will be just like I was here! Whilst this is not ideal timing it is important that I get it done. I haven't told the students as yet, I will tell them later in Week 7.

OUR LEARNING - WEEKS 5/6

We have been working hard in the last couple of weeks and we finished up our fractions unit in Maths with our assessment last week...this week we will begin looking at Perimeter and this will tap into our Measurement side of the brain!

In writing we have been looking at Procedures, the students this week will begin writing their own 'How To Make..." procedure in which they will write a procedure on a topic of their choice. This is the 'You Do' part of the learning process that comes after the 'I Do (as teacher)', 'We Do (as a class with teacher support)' and is done invidually as an opportunity to show their learning.

We had a great brainstorm to get a variety of topics...they can include things like 'How To Make...your favourite sandwich, bed, origami item, model etc.' I always tell the students that their best writing comes from those things that they know well!

We have begun our new unit in RE and it is focusing on the Advent unit...this starts off with some great learning around seasons. We discuss what we know of seasons before moving into discussing Aboriginal seasons and then we move into learning about the seasons within the church.

This ties in perfectly with our next Science lesson in which we will be looking at what the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples already knew about seasons and stars. This forms part of our Push Pull Unit which has had the students zooming toy cars around and then trying to measure where they landed to see the impact of force on the car's speed and distance.

In Digital Technologies we are learning about gathering data and how this data can be used to gather information...students will be given the opportunity to gather some data about themselves, analyse it and then present it as information which will be super fun!

Our next Art unit will be looking at blending oil pastels...a tricky skill but Mr Danaher will show us the way!

HOMEWORK - WEEK 6

  • Spelling - LCWC each night and 3 words into sentences. Please make sure you are marking their words each night. There was a large number of students that did not have their sentences completed - if you can please check in with them to make sure that these are done and to an acceptable standard.
  • Tables practice
  • Champion Life - a challenge to be completed twice a week.
  • Reading - out loud 10-15 minutes each night.
I am really working on making sure that homework like all classwork should be completed neatly...ideally this is done each night rather than in one go! If you can please check in with your child to see what it looks like I would be most appreciative!

Thanks everyone, have a great week!

Mrs Delane
