Week 9 Has Arrived...The End of the Term is Near!

 Good afternoon parents,

Welcome to Week 9...I can't believe how quickly this term has flown by! I feel like it was Week 3 like 5 minutes ago!! The weather today has been glorious and I went full adult and changed sheets and weeded and all sorts...looking forward to more days like this!

REMINDERS - WEEK 9 

Congratulations to our award winner this week, Hudson has been working super hard and took home our award for his efforts this week...great work Huddy!

Mission Markets - These will be on Thursday 24th September. This is always a fantastic day celebrating the feast day of Mary's assumption. We will be celebrating a whole school mass at 10am and then we will move to our market time in which students can participate in a variety of activities.

The Year 4's will be hosting a Chocolate Toss stall...the aim of this game is  students can throw their coins to land on a bar of chocolate. It is always hugely popular and a great fundraiser!

Please know that all staff are very mindful of the amount of sugar consumed on this day and the amount of landfill that is produced!

With this in mind, we are asking that all students in Year 4 send in 1 bar of chocolate (nut free - no Snickers) and 1 pack of fun size chocolates to be used as prizes. 

If these can please be in by Monday 21st September.

Students are to bring in a small amount of money, no more than $10 in small coins please. A wallet or purse with their name would be ideal!

Please also see the request from Mrs King and Ms McFarlane about items to be donated for their stall.

Mission Markets Pre-Loved Stall

On the last day of school (Thursday the 24th of September) the children will be participating in our annual feast day - The assumption of Mary. The Year 2 children are running a pre-loved toy and game store and would love any donations such as:

  • Books
  • Soft & hard toys (clean)
  • Board games & puzzles, with all pieces

There will be boxes outside the 2M classroom for you to place your donations in. We thank you in advance for your donations 😊

Scholastic Book Fair - 

When:       Tuesday September 15th and Wednesday September 16th 

Where:      OLC hall (note the change of venue) 

Times:       Before  ( 8 - 8.40 am)  and after school (2.40-4 pm) on both days. 

  • We will be open 20 minutes before school finishes each day for those parents who would like to browse without their children.
  • We will also open from 1.10 pm – 1.30 pm on each of these days for the children to come in , browse and buy. 
  • If you are sending money to school with your child no more than $20 please. 
  • With sustainability a high priority on our school improvement plan we have decide to limit the amount of ‘landfill’ sold, in the  way of novelty items often wrapped in plastic.  
  • Posters, pencils, pens, and some erasers will still be available.  
  • Scholastic give the school a generous commission which can be spent at Scholastic or taken as cash to spend at local book stores. 
Science Research Projects - In consultation with Mr Danaher and the students, I have decided that all presentations will take place in Week 10. I shared this information with the students in their science lesson last week. In our lesson this week we will be making sure that they have put their Power Point together and will be able to print their palm cards. 

All students should come with their presentation 90 - 100% complete so that they can include any last minute details on Tuesday and print their palm cards.

                             

I have also said to the students that if they wish to, they are able to record a video of themselves completing their experiment at home if they wish. They will need to insert this into their presentation to be watched on their presenting day. It is expected that students are including this preparation to their weekly homework schedule. 

Walkie, Wheelie, Waste Free Wednesday - Is on again this week if you can assist your child with walking or wheeling and bringing a waste free lunch. Thank you for your support!

Uthando Dolls - We are super excited to announce that we will be working on these again starting next term. This is a massive undertaking and we are in need of your help! If you are a sewer, expert child wrangler, cutter or closet fashion designer then WE NEED YOU!

Starting next term, each Thursday afternoon we will be working on our dolls. They come from HQ ready to go but we will need to machine sew them together before the students can start to create them. 

If any parents or grandparents are able to commit to helping each week or some weeks, we would love to have you come in. This project is impossible to undertake without parental help.

If you are able to assist (it doesn't have to be every week) please let me know!

HOMEWORK  - WEEK 9

You will have noticed that I have updated the Home Learning Grid to include some different activities for the students to choose from.
  • Spelling - LCWC each night and 3 words into sentences. Thank you so much for making sure that you are marking their words each night!!!
  • Tables practice
  • Champion Life - a challenge to be completed twice a week.
  • Reading - out loud 10-15 minutes each night
  • Additional Homework - Science Research Project

Good afternoon parents, Welcome to the final week, if you are like me, I can remember October and then suddenly the term is at its end!  It has been a busy one here, I was lucky enough to head to the Player's night on Thursday down at Shark Park and then was also able to head to the Volunteers Breakfast on Sunday...had the best chat with Bob Murphy, he is one funny cat!  What a great opportunity for our town to have the players in, they were so appreciative of the opportunity to come and connect with their fans and were a pleasure to be around! I would like to say the biggest and most sincere thank you to you as a parent group, you have been so supportive of myself and your children and we have had a thoroughly brilliant year as a group!  To see how much the children have grown and changed is such a privilege and I am going to miss them all very very much. Week 10 - The Home Stretch!

Good afternoon! The last week has arrived...I can't believe it either! Term 2 has been such a busy and productive time, the students have worked like troopers producing some amazing pieces of work! We are very proud of the learning habits they have developed and the maturity they are showing as we grow closer to Year 5. In saying this, it is time for a well-deserved break! REMINDERS - WEEK 10 Father Ian and Mr Wilkie Farewell Mass   - Tomorrow Father Tony Chiera will be celebrating Mass with us in the hall to wish Mr Wilkie and Fr Ian a happy farewell and retirement. The mass will begin at 1.30 pm and afterwards there will be an afternoon tea for the parents and parishioners to share together. It has been asked if families in Years Four to Six provide a plate for this afternoon tea and take it to the hall in the morning. We thank you for your support with this. A Couple of Reminders

Go od afternoon parents, Mrs Horrocks has asked for me to post some information about the upcoming Musical 'Go Fish' on Friday 8th June (Week 6) this term.  If you have any questions about the performance, including costumes or the logistics of the musical then Mrs Horrocks is the person to ask! We will be having a short meeting on Monday 7th May at 3.15pm. It would be great if you could make it!  If you are unable to make the meeting, but are keen to help...please let me know.  More importantly she is looking for volunteers who can donate some of their time to assist with costumes, the set and other roles.  If this is something you can assist with, then please contact or see Mrs Horrocks on that Monday.
