Welcome to Week 3

 Good morning parents,

Welcome to Week 3 here in 4DEL. I hope that you enjoyed the beautiful weather over the weekend...it was lovely to feel that true warmth in the sun letting us know that Summer is on the way...another reason why Term 4 is my favourite term!

I unfortunately spent the majority of the weekend in the company of the fine staff at Busselton Hospital after twinging my back on Wednesday. I am so grateful to live close to a hospital like Busselton, the doctors and nurses there are just amazing and I was blown away by the care and compassion that I received. I still need another day to make sure that I am tickety-boo but I am confident that I will be back on deck tomorrow. I just need to be careful...thank goodness for Pilates and heat packs!

I hate missing class as I am a control freak at heart but something that always makes me proud is the feedback that I receive from my relief teachers about how well the students coped, their level of respect and consideration and behaviour is always amazing. I am so proud of the fine young people that your beautiful children are!

REMINDERS - WEEK 3

First Eucharist - Just a reminder that this is fast approaching and for those of you that are focused on the finer details...here they are.

  • Clothing - Is to be predominantly white/light coloured clothing please, we are looking for our Sunday best. Think of something that would be worn to a wedding.
  • Arrival - Please make sure that you arrive at the Church on Sunday morning by 9.45am at the latest. This allows time for families to be seated, pins to be placed and nerves to be calmed.
  • Certificates & Celebration Cakes - We will be having a small family only morning tea at 10am on Friday 13th November if you are able to join us.
  • We feel that the ceremony should be completed by 11.30am for those of you looking to make reservations for celebrations afterwards...please bear in mind this is a best estimate only.
PAT Testing - These will continue this week as part of our annual Assessment Schedule...these tests are helpful with showing growth in reading, maths and spelling but please remember they only show a small part of what your amazing child can do. We deliberately down play these assessments so as not to add undue stress.

If you can please support your child to make sure that they are bringing their laptop to school, fully charged each day.

OUR LEARNING - WEEK 2/3

We have nearly completed our procedures on how to receive the Eucharist, this is a great way to help students feel comfortable and confident that they know what they are doing on the day! These will be up for display soon for you to check out.

In religion we have continued looking at the parts of the mass, this has been really helpful in getting the students to understand why we do and say the things that we do during the mass.

The students had a great time with Fr Francis on Friday morning touring the church to increase their understanding of items found in the Church and their significance.

We had a fantastic first session working on our Uthando Dolls on Thursday afternoon...a huge thank you to those mums that were available to help us. This week, we will be looking at putting hair on our dolls.  This will require some hands on sewing and if you are a good finger knitter we would love to have you!

In maths this week we will begin looking at fractions, starting off with refreshing our memories on halves, thirds and quarters. We will work on showing fractions of groups...think M&M's here...how many orange, green blue ones etc. and what fraction of the whole packet they make up.

The students are also hard at work on creating a beautiful piece of Eucharist inspired art that will be up for display on Sunday the 8th.

HOMEWORK - WEEK 3

  • Spelling - LCWC each night and 3 words into sentences. Please make sure you are marking their words each night.
  • Tables practice
  • Champion Life - a challenge to be completed twice a week.
  • Reading - out loud 10-15 minutes each night.
Thanks everyone, have a great week!

Mrs Delane
