Week 7 Has Arrived

Image
Good evening, A late publication this evening...been a busy one! A massive thank you to everyone that was able to come to our Open Classroom on Wednesday, it was so lovely to see the classroom full and to hear the students talking you through what we have been up to. A tough gig after a massive day at the carnival but heartwarming none the less! Just a couple of reminders for this week: Cultural Excursion - On Monday 13th September, the Year 4 classes are lucky enough to be heading down to the Margaret River Rotary Park to participate in an excursion aimed at helping us to learn more about our amazing region.  Ben and I have planned a great excursion with input from Josh Whiteland to help the students develop their awareness of Country and the history around the town. We would love to have any available parents that can come and join us, ideally, we would love to take those parents that haven't as yet ventured off with us so please let me know if you would like to attend.  We wil

Week 6 - Over The Hump

Image
Good afternoon parents, Welcome to the we are over the hump week...we have a fantastic week planned in 4DEL which is super exciting before we all roll into a long weekend having Friday off! Last week, I enjoyed completing my 4th and 5th days of my Leading Wellbeing Course with the amazing Laura Allison. Deb Perich and Shannon Stevens...3 amazing professionals who are right up in there with what is good in the Wellbeing world. These last couple of days focused around Change and the need for it when there is an opportunity to be better, how to meet the needs of my colleagues and students under the S tatus C ertainty  A utonomy R elatedness and F airness model. When these needs are met, we feel happy and comfortable and in turn, have a positive sense of wellbeing and capacity to cope with change. We also spent time look at Coping and Habits within the SEARCH framework and ensuring that I am working to develop these for myself and showing them to the students so they can also learn. I lov

Week 5 Brings the Sunshine!

Image
Good afternoon! What a weekend...I had forgotten how good the sunshine feels and effective it is in drying clothes!! The simplest things as you get older!! We have had such a great week in Year 4 and I am so pleased with how hard the children are working. We start our Monday's off with a bit of a touch base and update session on what the week will bring and during this time we also talk about our character strength focus for the week. This week we are looking at the strength of Humility and how we can use that well and in ways to support and encourage ourselves and others to be at their best. Any conversation that you can have with your child around this helps them understand their own strengths and how to use them well and to then use a strengths spotting lens to see it in others as well. See if this week you can use the language that praises their efforts through this strength lens. See Saw - Last week I sent out links to those parents still needing them for See Saw. A massive

Week 4 Is Here

Good afternoon parents, Welcome to the week...what a change in weather we have had had! I had almost packed away the wood in preparation for the sunshine to warm my bones but no! REMINDERS - WEEK 4 Potato Prints - Please make sure that your child comes to school tomorrow (Monday 9th) with their potato stencils ready to go. They can use bamboo skewers to create their stencils, cookie cutters or a knife under your supervision.  I would suggest giving them some time to dry out and encourage your child to think about including a handle or leaving some room for them to grip on to and firmly use.  They only need to bring in 2 or 3 stencils depending on their symbols as the goal of this activity is learning about the effectiveness of repetition. Laptops - A note from Mrs Johnson. Student laptops have 3 year warranty coverage plus accidental damage protection.  If there is any issue with your child’s laptop please bring the laptop to Mrs Johnson to be looked at and repaired (if needed).  P

Art Creation - Potato Print

Image
Good afternoon Year 4 parents, This afternoon in our art session we looked at the works of Andy Warhol and his use of repetitive patterns and symbolism. We discussed some of his pieces of work and how it can be effective to repeat a symbol when creating art. Students were then asked to create a list of things they value most - such as family, respect, trust, education or love as an example. From here, they were then asked to choose one they felt was most important and draw a variety of symbols to show this idea or value. Next week during our art session on Monday afternoon we will be using stencils that the students have made out of potatoes...this is where we need your help!  Over the week, students will continue to think about their symbols and then with your supervision create stencils in their potatoes and then bring these in to class on Monday to create their piece.  We are very mindful of not wasting good food so the stencils will be used in multiple colours multiple times.  T
