Week 4 Reminders
Good afternoon parents,
Welcome to another fantastic week in 4D. I would just like to say that the children are working so hard, they are following instructions beautifully and we are getting through a lot in each day...I hope they are sleeping as soundly as I am!
A big thank you to those parents that were able to attend our meeting last week. If your child has not yet given you their copy of the booklet, please let me know or come in and grab one. They are hanging in our Spare Notes section at the front of the room.
REMINDERS - WEEK 4
Swimming Carnival - Is on this Thursday 28th February! All parents are welcome to come and support if they can.
We ask that your child wears their bathers to school underneath their sports uniform to make life easier for them. They can wear thongs to school but they must bring their sneakers to put on after they return to school. They will need:
- Swimming bag - preferably not their school bag
- Bathers & Rashie - please note that all children must wear a rashie to keep them sun safe.
- Thongs
- Towel
- Goggles
- Packed recess and lunch
- Water bottle - perhaps think about packing a spare one as it can be a long hot day for them!
School AGM - Will be held in the Hall on Thursday 28th February beginning at 6.30pm. As many parents as possible are encouraged to attend.
Prayer Assembly - We will be hosting the school in a prayer assembly on Friday 1st March. Your child will bring home a copy of their reading tomorrow night - please take some time to read through it out loud a number of times. This helps them to build their confidence when reading in front of a lot of people and builds familiarity with tricky words!
Times Tables App - One of the parents has shared with me a fantastic App that is really engaging and fun to work with when helping your child with their tables. Check it out!
OUR LEARNING
The students have finished their Hulk character descriptions and these will be up for display in the coming days. We will then move on to looking at the importance of a good setting to help our readers to enjoy our story as much as possible.
In Maths this week we will be looking at Place Value. This can be where it sits in a Place Value Table and then it's worth. For example, a number will sit in the hundreds column giving it a value of 300.
In Health we have been looking at the different types of drugs and the effects that they can have on our system. We have discussed the positives and negative aspects of taking drugs - this has prompted some great conversations about the effects drugs can have on our bodies and our decision making.
In Science we have been looking at how Natural Processes can effect the earth, such as erosion and weathering. The students are able to define the different processes and explain how this impacts our earth. In Design and Technology we have been looking at the processes and equipment involved in planting and then harvesting potatoes as part of our Food and Fibre Unit.
Our weekly Making Jesus Real sessions have focused recently on a couple of main topics...these being how to win the hard ball in life. This means that in life we sometimes have to be tough and have self-discipline so that we can do the right thing. The second topic which prompted a lot of great discussion was about being humble...a quiet achiever. We shared some examples of people we thought of as quiet achievers and the students were asked to list some people they thought were quiet achievers.
On the whole it has been a very busy time in Year 4 as you can see!
HOMEWORK - WEEK 4
Please see below for the homework assigned for this week. There was some incomplete homework that was given in last week. If you can please support your child to complete all parts of their homework each week. This helps with their personal organisation reduces anxiety of getting in trouble when it is not done.
1. Reading - Students are to read for 10 minutes each night and enter it into their Reading Log. They are to bring it to you to be signed each night.
2. Timetables practise - this is the last week we are focusing on our 5 timestables. They will be tested at the end of the week! The students are to practise at least 5 times throughout the week at home. We are hoping that you are able to quiz them as often as possible to ensure their recall of their timestable facts is accurate and efficient. Please sign their Homework log when you have done this.
3. Mental Maths- Complete Unit 3, p.6&7. This will be marked in class each morning so please make sure your child includes this in their homework folder every morning.
4. Spelling - the students are to complete LSCWC with their new spelling words each night. They are to also complete dictionary meanings for their words which are due on Friday morning.
Thank you for a wonderful first few weeks of the term, I am REALLY enjoying working with your beautiful children!
Mrs Delane
