Welcome to Halfway!

 Good afternoon parents,

Welcome to the halfway point of what has already been a very busy term! I have secretly enjoyed the excuse to not go and watch Mark play footy this weekend as it is pretty cold and wet out there!! More time in front of the fire with Netflix for me...😊

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to the Casas family! Isabella and her parents have made the move from Kununurra recently and we look forward to welcoming Isabella into class tomorrow and her family into the OLC community!

REMINDERS - WEEK 5

Blue Pens - This week we will begin transitioning in to being the Year 4 and a halves that we are and will start completing all of our written work in blue pen. If I can just ask you to do a quick check in with your child to make sure that they have a few blue pens still floating around in their pencil cases!

Feast Day - OLC celebrated our Feast Day on Saturday 15th August...the Feast of the Assumption. Traditionally, we would have had a whole school mass and then our Mission Markets to celebrate this special day for our school. With restrictions still in place, Mrs Meyer has notified us that we will be having our celebration for this day on Thursday of Week 10, our last day of school for Term 3. Further information will follow in the coming weeks.

Open Classrooms - Please also be advised that our planned Open Night has been postponed due to Phase 4 Restrictions still being in place. A new date will be advised as soon as possible.

Sports - Throws - These will be conducted in our sports lesson this week, if you can please make sure that your child wears their faction shirt on Thursday!

Assessments - Just a small note about assessments that are undertaken during class. I am very mindful of keeping assessments low key and as stress free as possible. I like the students to have notice about upcoming assessments and also what will be assessed so that they have the opportunity to review their work.

If I can ask your support in also keeping these low key, if your child reaches out and asks for help that is great and I appreciate any support that you give them.  I am working hard to teach them that this is a part of their schooling and to give them tips and tricks on how to complete them well and manage their feelings about them. Assessments are a part of life but they are not the only part of life.

If your child is working with you or a private tutor, they can bring them home on whichever day/s is needed. If I can just ask that they come back to class the next day.

Our recent time test will be uploaded into their assessment folder on One Note tomorrow for you to check out.

Our next unit in Maths is going to be looking at Lines and Angles!

Merit Awards - As we are still unable to have whole school assemblies, Mr Torrese and Mr Lee are working the room and still delivering these in class. There have been changes to our One Drive system which is no longer allowing me to upload the recording to our blog like I used to.

We would like to congratulate our winner from Week 4 - Cooper King! He has been working super hard and is showing excellent work and learning habit, well done Coops!!

HOMEWORK - WEEK 5
  • Spelling - LCWC each night - please make sure that you or your child is MARKING their words each night.
  • Tables practice
  • Reading - out loud 10-15 minutes each night
  • Additional Homework - At various times through the week and into the term I may send home work to be completed that has not been completed in the given class time. I will always make sure that there is a reasonable time limit given to hand the work back in and please know, class time has always been given to complete it.
Have a fantastic week and stay warm!
