Week 8 Post
Good afternoon parents,
Welcome to the week...I hope all our amazing dads are feeling loved and cared for and that you were able to spend at least a small part of the day doing something you love!
We have quite a bit on this week, so please pay close attention to the reminders section below.
Thank you for an amazing Book Week! The students looked fantastic and they had a great day listening to author DC Green talk about the writing process and then had an absolute ball watching the Parade after recess. I am sure the students found it a little hard to focus with a cat teaching them for the day...at least I was warm and comfortable!
This is Little Fur.
Harry and Hermione popped in to say hello!
Geronimo Stilton!
Charlie from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Reconciliation Parent Meeting - Is on this Wednesday 5th September beginning at 5pm in the Library. At least one parent (if not both) must attend with their child if they are to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
If your child is a prayer buddy, you do not need to attend this night.
3M will have their Information Night on Thursday 6th September, also beginning at 5pm if you are unable to make Wednesday night.
Reconciliation Commitment & Family Mass - Is on Saturday 8th September beginning at 6pm. All candidates and prayer buddies must be in attendance.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend either of these events.
Jumps and Throws - We will be rolling through these on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Faction shirts are to be worn all week including Thursday which is not normally a sports day.
Our Sports Carnival is on Friday 7th September beginning at 9.30am, please come dressed in your team colours ready to cheer! If you would like to take your child home at the conclusion of the carnival you are welcome to do so. You will need to sign them out through the office before you leave.
Shoe Box Items - These are due in by this Friday 7th September so that we can begin boxing up the items ready to send in Week 9.
Learning Journeys - Will be on Monday 17th September beginning at 3.30pm - 5pm. This will be an opportunity for you to come in and spend some time in your child's classroom checking out what they have been up to! I look forward to seeing you!
In our literacy sessions we have concluded our Information Reports on our major Australian places. The students did a great job on these and it was interesting to hear about some of the amazing places that the students are obviously very familiar with.
In maths we have started looking at grids and mapping. The students have begun their 'Mapping Our School Assignment'. This gives them opportunity to fine tune their measuring skills and then create their own map of the school working to scale. We had a great time practising with measuring the basketball courts on Friday...so I look forward to seeing the end result.
In our religion lessons we have been looking at making good choices showing loving actions and reflecting on how this makes people feel. We are in the early stages of our Reconciliation Unit moving through our preparations for Reconciliation.
In HASS we have been learning about the different climates of our neighbours and how they are similar and different to Australia which has been interesting!
In our Health - Keeping Safe lessons we have been looking at examples of OK touching and not OK touching. We have had great conversations about the kinds of touching that is OK and how it is important to pay attention to our individual warning signs and what they are trying to tell us. I hope this lesson might have been mentioned at home...these are great segues into talking about Protective Behaviours and a good reminder of our trust networks.
Reading - If you can please make sure that your child is reading out loud to you each night.
Spelling - Students are to complete a LCWC of their list words for the week.
Sight Words - If you can please work with your child to complete these every night.
Mental Maths - Students are to complete Days 1-4 of Unit 27. This is marked daily in class each morning. Please make sure that the Think Box section has also been completed.
Times Tables - Activity Sheet - 4 Times Tables.
