Week 8 Update

Hello 4DEL,

What a weekend...I have spent the weekend hosting and celebrating the festival of my daughter's impending birthday on Tuesday...apparently this is a thing now.

After a late hockey game Friday, which they won thank goodness, we then spent a gorgeous Saturday over at Barrabup Pool...if you haven't been, you absolutely have to whilst the weather is still warm...such a glorious place to be!

Rounded out with dinner at Pedro's...a sleepover and then brekky out this morning, I am well puffed!

I hope all the swimming gear made it home and has had a good air out...I was on patrol and the kids were pretty good with making sure that everything was taken home! Their instructors were very complimentary about the children and their behaviour...they did you and OLC proud!

REMINDERS - WEEK 8

Parent Meetings - I will be kicking these off this week on Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to those of you that have already made a booking...if you're having any dramas, please let me know. It seems to work on a laptop but not so well on a phone or tablet.

This meeting is designed to give you a brief overview of how your child is progressing with a focus on literacy and numeracy. We will also discuss your child's work habits and just generally how they are travelling. I am very excited to meet many of you!!

If you can please make a note of your time and ensure that you are on time, I would be most appreciative. If it seems that we have more to discuss, we can make another time to finish the conversation.

If you can please wait outside our sliding glass door (not the wet area) as this will help you to know when the previous meeting has concluded.

Interschool Swimming - Is on Thursday 25th March. We have a small number of individuals that will be waving the 4DEL flag...we wish them all the best!

Bears to show we Care - Students are asked to bring a school bag sized bear/teddy and a gold coin donation to school on Friday 26th March as our mission fundraiser for this term. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Library Book Exchange - Is back on this week, as mentioned previously we have moved this time from Thursday to Wednesday. If you can please support your child to bring their library bag please!

OLC Swimming Carnival - As mentioned previously, this has been rescheduled to Thursday 1st April in Margaret River.

If you know that your child is not going to be there...can you please send me an email to let me know as soon as possible! This will allow Mrs Sinclair to move other students into events.

OUR LEARNING

We have been working hard on our setting descriptions and these are now finished and up for display...we are moving on to our character descriptions now which is always great fun.

In class we watched the scene from Matilda in which Ms Trunchibull really lets rip...as we watched it we completed a Y Chart which helped us to unpack how her character sounded, made us feel and what she looked like. As we worked on this the kids got real insight into what a teacher should NOT be like!

In class tomorrow we will be completing our assessment on Multiplication & Division as well as work on Coordinates.

We will be continuing our learning around scales and mapping which is always fun...particularly useful for a rainy day where the kids can make their own treasure map and have at it!

We are beginning our new Religion Unit - Lent/Easter this week which leads in well Easter...we will be celebrating a whole school liturgy next Wednesday.

In science this week we will begin looking at Extreme Weather and how it can affect the landscape.

As much as I enjoyed the view down at the bay I am so grateful to be back in class minus the interruptions ready to round out the term working hard!

HOMEWORK - WEEK 8

Thank you for your support in a much better effort this week, if I can please ask you to check that your child's grid has been signed.

A quick recap for you:

Each night:

  • Reading 10-15 minutes
  • Spelling - LCWC - please make sure this is completed neatly and is marked.
  • Times Tables - ask your child which they feel are their hardest and work on those. If your child would like to write these out, that is absolutely fine!
Over the week:
  • 4 boxes - written in or coloured.
  • Spelling - one set of sentences. If you can please make sure that your child has neatly ruled up this section and that their sentences are realistic and well constructed... I am looking for neat, quality work...I say this so you have written evidence should you need it!
Have a fantastic week, I look forward to seeing many of you this week and into next week!

Mrs Dealane
