Can You Believe It's Week 5?!

Good afternoon parents,

Welcome to the week...we have hit the ground running this week and we have enjoyed a lovely settled start which is great!

REMINDERS -WEEK 5

Gathering Time - A reminder that this is an important time of the day to get set up. I use the Interactive Whiteboard at the front of the room to give clear and specific instructions around what is required...this is your child's first port of call.

At times your child may have work to catch up from the previous day and this is bonus time for those activities. It can also be a time for your child to catch up on any incomplete homework from the previous night. If your child is up to date with all required tasks they are welcome to sit and read or draw quietly, they can also organise and tidy their drawers...another important task!

Reading Books - These will be changed on Mondays, if you can please support your child to bring these back so that they can be changed.

Book Donations - Our 3D bookshelf is looking a little bare! If your child has any spare books that would be suitable, they would be greatly appreciated by all in 3D.

Just a reminder that Tuesday 6th March is a Professional Development day for teachers and school will be closed for students...enjoy the extra long weekend!

OUR LEARNING

We have been working very hard during our literacy sessions, we have finished our PEE paragraphs and we have moved on to looking at modality language and how important this is when writing a persuasive text. In our guided reading sessions, we have been looking at reading persuasive text samples and honing our comprehension skills by looking at answering literal and inferential questions.

In maths we have been looking at collecting data - we have had some great fun with creating survey questions for our classmates. We began looking today and representing the data that we have collected using tally marks to show responses.

In our Making Jesus Real sessions, we have been discussing the importance of finding Jesus in our everyday lives. I have asked the children to be on the lookout for times when they see the Spirit of Jesus in others. I would love it if you could make a point of asking each night or every couple of nights around the dinner table...'Where did you see the Spirit of Jesus today?" or "Was there a time today when you displayed the Spirit of Jesus?"

This will hopefully encourage them to be on the lookout!

HOMEWORK - WEEK 5

Please see below the homework that has been assigned for the week.

Reading - All reading is to be written into their reading log, including the name of the book and number of pages and then signed by you.

Spelling - Students are to complete a LCWC of their list words for the week. Please make sure that they are colour coding their concept. This was demonstrated in class today.

I ask that students do not go ahead and complete all of their LCWC in one day as this means that they are not seeing the words again until they are tested on Friday and this doesn't help with their retention of the concept being covered.

Sight Words - If you can please work with your child to complete these every night. It is great to ask your child the definition of the word or to use that word in a sentence as well if you have time?

If your child can please make sure they are taking care with their bag as well as we will reuse these each week.

Mental Maths - Students are to complete Days 1-4 of Unit 5 Please see the link below for assistance if needed.

Unit 5 - Place Value Addition

Times Tables - We are also asking students to write out their 2 times tables in their homework books. They are to be written as 1x2=2, 2x2=4...etc.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Have a great week,

Mrs Delane
