Welcome to Term 3!
Good afternoon parents,
Welcome back to another busy and exciting term...I hope that you enjoyed a restful break? For those of you that were lucky enough to get away I have enjoyed hearing about some of the adventures the students got up to!
Stationery Items - Please make sure that you have updated your child's stationery items. It is quite stressful for the students when they don't have what they need and it causes quite a disruption when they are having to move around the class to borrow items. As always, please make sure it is clearly labelled.
Year 3 Class Mass - Year 3D will be leading a whole school mass on Friday 3rd August. I will be sending home copies of the readings shortly to those children that have been selected. My aim is to include as many of the students as possible and I will try my best!
Inter-school Cross Country - Notes were sent home with the relevant children today, please check their bags!
Yr 6 Confirmation Commitment and Family Mass - Is on Saturday 28th July and all families are invited to attend. These masses are not just for the families of that year group - all are welcome!
School Photos - These will be taken in Week 6 on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th August so mark the date in your calendar. Please make sure that your child comes in their full winter uniform (including the jumper) on this day.
Book Week Dress Up - For those needing time to get sewing...this will be help on Thursday 30th August.
Sports Carnival - The jumps part of the Carnival will be held on Wednesday 29th August and the Throws on the 5th September with the remaining events being held on Thursday 6th September.
This term we are once again going to be very busy in our learning. We will be beginning a couple of new initiatives to continue to cater for the wide variety of learners within our classroom.
Our Literacy focus this term will look at Information Reports. Their purpose, structure and some different examples, as well as looking at some Poetry in the latter part of the term.
Our Maths focus this term will be odd and even numbers, inverse operations, money, number patterns, volume and capacity, mass, grids and maps and finishing off learning about time.
In our HASS subject we will continue to explore Australia and its neighbours including learning about emblems and climates of Australia.
We will continue working through the Making Jesus Real program with an emphasis on identifying where we see the Spirit of Jesus in each other. We will also look at BEING A WEST PERSON. This means to be a person that:
Please see below the homework that has been assigned for the week.
Reading - All reading is to be written into their reading log, including the name of the book and number of pages and then signed by you.
Please note - Reading books are to be changed on a Monday only. At the moment I am getting dribs and drabs which is not easy to facilitate so I will stand firm on this.
Spelling - Students are to complete a LCWC of their list words for the week.
I ask that students do not go ahead and complete all of their LCWC in one day as this means that they are not seeing the words again until they are tested on Friday and this doesn't help with their retention of the concept being covered.
Sight Words - If you can please work with your child to complete these every night.
Mental Maths - Students are to complete Days 1-4 of Unit 20 This is marked daily in class each morning. It is fine if students work ahead on this.
Times Tables - Activity Sheet - 8 Times Tables. Students are asked to write out their tables in order on Monday and Tuesday nights and then complete them out of order on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Wishing you a wonderful week,
Mrs Delane
