Week 5 - Important Info

Good morning everyone,

I hope that all had a fantastic weekend...who would like to join me in lobbying for a day between Saturday and Sunday?! I feel like I have just finished the sport and other adulting tasks plus homework and it is already Monday morning!

I do look forward to welcoming your beautiful children into class each week though...their growth and maturity is really developing and they are working so hard and are enthusiastic about everything...okay...most of what we are doing in class which makes every day fun!

A huge thank you for your support with our Mission Markets on Thursday, the students were excellent at Mass with Fr Francis and we had a wonderful day celebrating our feast day. Thank you for your donations and the money sent in, it will go a long way to helping a lot of people!

WEEK 5 REMINDERS

Gathering Time - Can I please ask that your child is ready to come in to class as close to 8.30 as possible please? Ideally carrying their own things and getting themselves ready for the day...as we are beginning to transition for Year 5, it is very important they are used to carrying their own belongings and getting themselves to class on time and prepared to start the day.

Those students that consistently come in late often feel quite overwhelmed as we are walking on the door, their friends are greeting them and they do not have what they need ready for the morning session to begin.

4D Performance Assembly - is on this Friday 23rd August beginning at 9am in the Hall. This year it will be in conjunction with our Annual Book Week Dress Up Day...book the morning off work!

We have a superhero themed assembly item so if it ties in with your child's costume that is great...if not, can you please make sure they have a cape and mask to throw on over the top of their costume. I saw some in Spotlight last week for about $6 for the two. If your child does not enjoy dressing up (join the club!) but they are to wear their sports uniform, also with a cape and mask please.

I have also put our song on to Teams for the students to practice so I would appreciate if you could let them have some time to run through the words multiple times...apologies for the ear worm!

I have assigned specific roles to the following people and they will need to dress SIMPLY.

  • Joe - Alfred (Batman's Butler)
  • Vinny - Batman
  • Tara - Bat Girl

Narrators - Cape and Mask or Superhero Costume of Choice!

  • Dior
  • Max
  • Lilly

Power Rangers - with mask and arm bands if possible. If not, all dressed in their colour would be great!

  • Pink - Sian
  • Blue _ Flynn
  • Yellow - Georgie
  • Red - Ryley
All other students are to come dressed in their costume of choice with a cape and mask to make up our HERO Crew!

Uthando Dolls - A very big thank you to our helpers last week. If you are able to give us a hand, please come on down to 4D at 1.45pm on Wednesday afternoon. If you are able to BYO a sewing kit that would be great!

I have some extra needles, we are still in need of donations of black wool for the hair for the dolls if you have any lying around?

Year 3/4 Buddy Mass - We will be walking down to church on Wednesday morning 28th August to join the parishioners at mass. You are welcome to join us if you are able, mass begins at 9.30am.

OUR LEARNING - WEEK 5

In HASS we have been looking at renewable and non-renewable resource as well as understanding what it means to live in a sustainable world. We watched a fantastic video which really helped the students to understand the practicalities of what needs to happen in order for us to live a sustainable life environmentally, economically and socially. If you have some time, it is well worth the watch. I have included the link here.  Sustainability - A Fairy Tale

In Science we have been focusing on what a material is, the two types of materials (natural and synthetic) and the properties these materials have. This week the students will be investigating an object of their choice. They will identify the materials it contains and the reasons why these materials are used. This will encourage them to explore the properties of these materials and the purpose they have (e.g. a umbrella uses soft plastic as it is flexible to go around the frame and is waterproof). The children will be encouraged to think of their own experiments to test these properties of the object of their choice.

In the coming week they will receive a research assignment around these topics to do in class, as well as during homework time. These will be presented in class during Week 9. Please keep an eye out for the rubric in their bags and on OneNote (in the  Diary section) later in the week.

HOMEWORK - WEEK 5

Any children that have not completed their homework by Friday will catch up on any outstanding parts whilst they have their recess on Friday. I will send you an email on Friday to let you know if your child has not completed their homework. A follow up conversation over the weekend is greatly appreciated

1. Reading - Students are to read for 10 minutes each night. Please encourage them to read out loud to you at least twice a week.
2. Timetables - Free Choice -  Students are to practice at least 4 times throughout the week at home. Choose the challenging ones and please test them in and out of order verbally.

3. Mental Maths- Complete Unit 24, p 48 & 49. All sections are to be completed by Friday. These are marked in class every morning,

4. Spelling - the students are to complete LSCWC and their 'Words Within in Sentences' into their Homework
books by Friday.

Have a great week!

I look forward to sending a thumbs up or high five your way if I see you!

Mrs Delane
