Week 4 Has Touched Down!
Good morning everyone,
Hope you're enjoying the humid weather...what hairstyle you ask! The weekend passed by in a blur of adulting and the thumping bass from the Hotter than Hell concert which I am pretty sure was being held in my backyard...!
I got the chance to check out the new Sonic movie...not bad! It was a lot of fun explaining to the 5 extra boys that the movie came after the video game...no, I didn't feel old at all!
Eucharist Family Workshop - is on tomorrow night Tuesday 25th February beginning promptly at 5.30pm in the hall. All students that are receiving this sacrament are expected to attend with their parent/s. Prayer buddies do not need to attend.
Ash Wednesday Prayer Service - we will be coming together as a whole school on Wednesday, 26th February (10am) to celebrate Ash Wednesday with a prayer service that helps the students to focus their prayers and actions during Lent.
During Lent we ask ourselves to pray for others, fast and participate in almsgiving - giving to those in need. These are great conversation points to have with your child if they are a little confused about what they should be doing.
Swimming Carnival - we will be hitting the pool on Thursday 27th February for the annual OLC Swimming Carnival. All parents are warmly invited to attend if you can...come dressed in your child's colours and get ready to yell for your team!
If you can please make sure that your child comes in their faction uniform with thongs to wear to the pool. They will also need bathers, rashie, towel, their school hat and goggles. Suncream is to already be applied before coming to school, we will take extra too!
If you would like to take your child home with you from the pool you will need to come and let me know at the conclusion of the carnival. If someone else will be taking your child, please write a note to give to me.
Laptops - these went home on Friday, I am sure that it was quite the excitement over the weekend! I would like to see over the next few days the students taking some time to familiarise themselves with their devices.
This is new tech to the students and they do need time to learn. We covered a few things in class today, most importantly the use of our two main forums in Teams and One Note. We encourage you to sit with your child and familiarise yourself with these and how they work.
One of the main points we discussed for you to be aware of is, these devices are for learning. We talked about the importance of using the Teams messaging function for learning only and is not to be used for social conversations. Class work will be placed into One Note for the students to access - this is particularly helpful if your child is away and misses their spelling words for example.
OUR LEARNING - WEEK 3
We had a fantastic time on Friday with creating our boats during our STEM lesson. The students had a chance to work with their partner to create a boat that could float for a minute. These were an outstanding success and a lot of fun was had!
We had two boats that were able to hold 98 marbles and Eva Patternson (4DAN) made a boat that was able to float with 100 marbles in it!

Homework - Week 4
Our homework grid is to be completed over the week from Monday to Thursday and is due in on Friday morning to be checked. If you can please make sure that your child has chased you around the house so you can sign their grid, I would be most appreciative!
If your child would like to work on their assigned Mathletics tasks, with your permission they are welcome to do so.
