Welcome to Week 3

Good morning parents,

Welcome to the week...a very Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing mummas of 4DEL! You are all amazing and I hope that you enjoyed yesterday's sunshine and were able to fit in a moment of two of something that filled your person cup.

Mrs Martin is in class for me today as I was unfortunately unwell over the weekend...I am hoping to be okay for tomorrow as I do not like being sick!

REMINDERS - WEEK 3

Maths Test - On Friday 13th May, we will be having our assessment around our mental and written strategies for addition and subtraction. We will be having a review session on Wednesday and Thursday, so the students feel confident coming into it on Friday.

Books returned - For those that have been working at home, please make sure that all books and stationery items are coming back in to class with your child.

If I can also ask that you do a stationery check from your spares packet...a lot of students are missing glue, rubbers and scissors in particular and I would appreciate it if you could ask them to check and replace and missing items. We run a pretty tidy ship in 4DEL and all labelled items make their way back to their owners. We also did a drawer tidy last week and rounded up those items at the bottom of the drawer.

Uniform - as you are aware Mr Lee has given some extra grace around uniforms due to the 'oh my goodness, what just happenedness' of the last weeks. Something to note is that the black OLC jackets is NOT to be worn on its own, it must be worn over the top of the green school jumper. If there is a medical reason why your child is not wearing their green jumper...skin issues etc. Your child will need to bring in a note from their doctor.

OUR LEARNING - WEEK 2-3

We have been having a fantastic time and have been working really hard!

In our literacy lessons, we have been hard at work researching our favourite animals for our information reports. We have been hunting our texts to find the answers to our questions around these animals...we are fact gatherers! Once we have completed our research we will begin drafting our texts looking at adding in comparative language and adjectives to help add to the descriptions of our animals...think Sir David Attenborough and that is what we are aiming for!

In maths we have been looking at mental and written strategies for addition and subtraction. We have been working on the formal algorithm for both...this is what you and I learnt at school!

In our Religion lessons we have been looking at what Mary can teach us about being a Catholic and a good person, the students are working on creating posters sharing all the ways that she can help us and I look forward to having them up on display soon! I might have to do a virtual tour so you can check out all our amazing work...with restrictions easing, hopefully parents will soon be allowed on school grounds.

Our Friday STEM lessons have been going off...the kids had an absolutely fantastic time on Friday looking at how they could make the tallest structure possible using only pasta and mini marshmallows...a couple of legends in in 4DAN just pipped Jacob and Jordy for the tallest. The boys managed 39cm and the girls got them with 42cm.

In our Science lessons, we have been looking at the parts of a plant and the important role that wind, animals and insects play in pollination. This week we will be creating our own pollinators and looking at the parts of a bee...we also got our geek on when we watched a David Attenborough doco about the life of plants...the kids were blown away.
with the cinematography and the images that were able to be captured.

HOMEWORK - WEEK 3

We will be resuming homework this week (insert parental groan here...) as this is an important part of helping the kids to feel back in the swing of things.

Your child will bring home their usual homework grid and list words, these are to be worked on through the week and brought in on Friday.

Have a great week and let me know if you have any questions?

Caitlin
