Welcome to Term 3!

Good evening parents,

Welcome back to Term Three! I am looking forward to welcoming the students back into class tomorrow morning.

REMINDERS - WEEK 1

Exercise Books - Just a reminder that I have asked everyone to please send in 3 additional exercise books for our use this semester. Our writing, spelling and maths books are full! The old books will be kept in the students drawers for you to look at during our Open Night.

If you can please label them with your child's name, I will have new book covers for them to put on.

Stationery - A quick check of the pencil case is always appreciated...particularly ask if your child needs glue sticks? These are as rare as hens teeth in 4DEL...I am convinced there is an underground black market trading in these and pencils!

Mission Markets - Our annual OLC Mission Markets-  celebrating Our Lady;s Feast Day- is on this term. We will be celebrating this with mass and our mission markets on Friday 21st August - Week 5. We will be in touch closer to the date with information about what our class will be providing.

Laptops - Please make sure these are coming to school updated and fully charged each day!

Dates for Your Diary:
  • OLC Open Night : Wednesday 26th August
  • OLC Athletics Carnival: Thursday 27th  August
  • Pupil Free Day: Friday 28th August

A couple of personal dates to note, I will be attending a PD up in Perth on Monday 27th July and will be also absent for the morning Tuesday 3rd August as I have to attend a medical appointment in Bunbury. I anticipate that I will be back for the afternoon.

OUR LEARNING - TERM 3

I always say it, but it is once again shaping up to be a busy term learning lots and lots!

In our writing this term, we will be looking at the features and structure of persuasive texts. This is where I let them in on a few secrets about how they can successfully campaign for what they want without chucking a paddy or slamming a single door! We will be looking at the reading comprehension strategies of Questioning, Monitoring and Inferring. At night or when your son or daughter is reading to you, make sure that you are asking a few questions every now and again so they remain used to reading and remembering.

In maths this term we will be tackling units on time, money, perimeter and area as well as looking at lines and angles. Practice with telling the time and using money is super important...anything you can do at home to help with this is great!

We will be looking at the properties of materials in science, patterns in the playground in our art sessions and a focus on developing our positive self-talk and growth mindset during our MJR and Friendology sessions.

Homework will begin this week, your child will be asked to complete their Home Learning Grid which includes a variety of activities to choose from as well as reading, spelling and times tables practice each night.

Have a great week, I look forward to seeing you around school in the coming weeks!

Mrs Delane
