Week 3 Update

 Good afternoon parents,

Welcome to another fantastic week in 4DEL! There is a lot happening in the next couple of weeks to continue our full on start to the year.

REMINDERS - WEEK 3

Headphones - these were an item on our book list and are necessary. If your child did not receive them or bring them in can you please organise a set to come in as soon as possible. As our use of our laptops increases these are necessary.

Stationery - we are only 3 weeks in and each day there are multiple students looking for a ruler, glue stick or scissors. At the end of each day we always do a pick up and return any labelled items to their owners. As you can appreciate it puts pressure on other students to lend itmes as they are trying to do the right thing. Can you please check in with your child to see if they are missing any items and send in replacements as soon as possible.

Class Reps - Year 4 is currently one of the only classes without any reps...is there anyone willing to take on this position? I promise that Ben and I will make it as easy as possible on you!

Swimming Trials - Please note these are on Tuesday 23rd. We will be leaving school at 9am. Please make sure that your child wears their sports uniform with their bathers underneath. They are to bring a rashie, goggles, towels and thongs to wear to the pool.

Bushfire Drill - Make sure that your emergency contact details are up to date with the office as we will be having a drill on Wednesday. Please make sure that you come to class to collect your child, I will make a note if your child is going home with another family.

Absence - I will be attending a Wellbeing in Schools Course on Thursday in Bunbury. Mrs Judy Nutman will be in to cover my class for the day.

Homework - I have placed a copy of the Success Criteria for homework set up and marking on the student's One Note in the Welcome section. If I can ask you to please take some time to go over this with your child.

A couple of takeaways:

  • Please make sure your child has coloured/ticked/highlighted/written in the section to show what they have completed over the week.
  • Please make sure that you sign the section down the bottom.
  • LCWC's are to be written neatly and corrected each night to ensure that errors are not repeated over the week.
PAT Assessments - We will be completing these over the next couple of weeks, if we can ask that you support your child by making sure that their laptops are coming to school with sufficient charge each day.

OUR LEARNING

In our writing sessions, we have been looking at the structure of a really good narrative and have been working on how to identify these in a given story. This week we will begin looking at language features that are found in a narrative and how we can use these in our own writing.

In maths we have just finished up our unit on odd and even numbers, representing numbers and place value and will be having an assessment on Thursday to check our understanding.

In religion we have been learning about right relationships, how they make us feel and what we need to do to ensure they are working well. We celebrated a beautfiul class liturgy on Wednesday for Ash Wednesday and the students were very reverent and respectful. Our focus for Lent this year is to 'Be More'...this is more patient, loving, generous and forgiving. Your child might show some interest in bringing in some pocket money to put in the Project Compassion box or to think about giving something up for Lent. We are also asking the students to focus on praying more...perhaps as a family have a chat about people you know that might need some extra prayers.

In our science lessons we have been looking at natural processes that occur in the environment and how we can observe them. We discussed a great documentary on Netflix called 'Chasing Ice'...I suggested it may be a good one to watch as a family as it looks at changes to glaciers over time.

Our Friendology sessions have been focused on being as true a person as we can and being brave enough to show our tru colours...thank you Cyndi Lauper!

HOMEWORK - WEEK 3

Thank you for your support in our first week of homework...your child has a new learning grid that will be coming home with them tomorrow!

This week we will be doing a time tables quiz this week which will give your child their tables to focus on.

Have a great week and give everyone you love an extra cuddle!

Kind regards,

Mrs Delane
