Week 7 Update

Good afternoon parents,

Welcome to another fabulous week in 4DEL..I hope you are enjoying this change in weather, I for one am very grateful for the cooler change!

A few reminders for the coming week...

Eagle Heritage Excursion - we are all super pumped for our excursion this coming Thursday. I am hopeful that the weather stays cool and dry, we are asking the students to wear their sports uniform on Thursday as it provides an additional layer of warmth!

If it looks like it will be raining, can you please include a rain jacket and a small umbrella in your child's bag. The pathways between the cages are uncovered so the children will need some additional protection in the event of rain.

Catch Up Eucharist Workshop - this will held on Thursday afternoon for those families that were unable to attend last Tuesday's workshop. We will begin at 3.30pm down in the bunker.

Focus Character Strength - This week we will be looking at the character strength of Creativity!

Ask your child where this strength came in when they completed their Character Strength survey and where they might see this in their daily lives...we are talking in class about occasions where we see this strength in action.

OLC Celebrates National Sorry DayWe had a great week last week learning and discussing National Sorry Week. It was fabulous to see the respect and curiousity that the students demonstrated...it was topped off with an amazing experience for National Sorry Day, when the whole school came together to take the photo below.

Pupil Free Days - Please note that we (you guys) all get an extra long weekend this coming weekend. Our staff will will be participating in a session with Fr Tony Chiera on Friday in which we will be learning about -  Understanding, preparing and celebrating Eucharist. The day will examine the ritual structure of the Mass and its underlying scriptural and liturgical understanding. Any time spent with Fr Tony is always a truly special experience and so good for the soul so I am very much looking forward to it!

On Tuesday we will be spending time with the truly amazing Laura Allison, my mentor in the Leading Wellbeing program that I am currently undertaking. She is a fantastic resource in sharing practical strategies on how schools can promote wellbeing for our staff and students.

Eucharist Commitment Mass - Just a reminder for your calendar that on Saturday 12th June at 6pm, all Year 4 families are warmly invited to attend our Commitment Mass. This has been combined with our Family Mass for the year so we would love to see you there...pizza will be served after mass!

OUR LEARNING - WEEK 6 - Miss T's Corner:

This week in our writing lessons, students have been exploring the language features of informative texts. I have been quite impressed with the level of participation and engagement during these lessons, particularly when we did our class brainstorm on what language features we might find in an informative text about snakes!

In maths, our learning has been centred around the topic of 'area' and how to calculate the area of a 2D shape. One of the highlights this week was a little application exercise - the Robot Challenge! Here, students were given the following task:

The aim was to draw a robot using the grid paper provided. The conditions were that the robot's body parts (arms, legs, body and head) must be drawn according to the specified square units.

The students really enjoyed this activity and put a lot of effort into creating their robots.

Mrs Delane and I had a bit of a chuckle at some of the chores these robots were designed to perform.

In Religion, this week we have started our unit on the Eucharist, in preparation for the students' participation in the sacrament at the end of this term.

This week we focused our learning on the notion of 'celebration' and how Jesus celebrated with others. Student's explored the parable of The Great Banquet and how the teachings in this story are applicable to our everyday lives.

In art this week, students spent the whole lesson completing their final artwork. Since the beginning of the term, we have been exploring various art techniques and processes which the students were then able to combine to create their final work.

I was super impressed with their creativity and sensitivity using the materials. It was also really great to see the progression in skills and techniques that the students acquired over the last few weeks, which was evident in their final artwork. These will be up for display this week!

HOMEWORK -

A much better effort from the kids this week which was great to see! Thank you so much for your support!

Please note that homework is due in on Thursday this week due to the short week, students are asked to complete the following:

  • LCWC - Monday - Wednesday night only.
  • Reading - Each night
  • Sentences - 1 set of 5 sentences written neatly and to an appropriate Year 4 standard.
  • Grid Tasks - as selection of these completed over the week.
Thanks for all your hard work to keep your beautiful kids up and about, enjoy the long weekend!

Caitlin
