Back to Term Reminders

Good afternoon all!

Wow, what a week of weather it has been! We unfortunately lost an old peppy tree from over our firepit in the rain from Friday but we are grateful for the free firewood! That is Mark contemplating all the chainsawing that he is going to have to do!

I hope that you have enjoyed the break whether you have escaped or stayed put!

Can we also take a moment to reflect on the amazing experience of the students receiving Eucharist a couple of weeks ago...it was such a beautiful service and I was so proud of the students for the way they participated so joyfully and reverently. They were a real credit to you! What a beautiful image!!

I don't want to give anyone the heeby jeebies but there are a couple of back to school things that need to happen ready for Day 1 next week.

Firstly, all students are asked to bring in 5 new exercise books ready for Monday - A4 96 pages please.

One each for Reading, Spelling, Writing, Maths & Homework.

Our main books are full and it is always nice to start the term off with fresh books ready to put in all that new work!

If your child DOES NOT already have the clear book covers, can you please send them in. There is a marked difference in how the books have held together between the covers and no covers...the aim is that these covers will be reusable for you next year so a worthwhile investment.

Also, if you can make sure that your child has an A4 Display Folder that can be used for Music this semester with Mrs Sherborne. Once again, ready for Monday please.

A stationery check in would be awesome...assume your child has lost everything!!!!!!

Secondly, a reminder that I will be off on Long Service Leave for the first two weeks of Term 3...Mrs Serena O'Brien will be at the helm.

We had a great handover in the last week of school and she will be following the already established routines and procedures for the class with Mr Danaher on hand to support!

A huge thank you to for the little gifts and emails I received in the last weeks of term...I am so grateful to you for your support and care!!

Please note, if you need to send me an email in regards to anything important for your child, Mrs O'Brien will have my laptop at school so she is aware of anything that may need to be shared so please send an email to caitlin.delane@cewa.edu.au if you need to! She will share with me anything urgent.

Thirdly, those students that were absent for our First Eucharist on the 27th June will be receiving this Sacrament on Sunday 25th July at 8.30am. It would be wonderful if as many students as possible were able to come along to support their classmates!

OUR LEARNING - TERM 3

I know I keep saying it but it is shaping up to be another busy, but thankfully not as long one!

In our writing and reading we will be looking at Persuasive Texts, this is where I share the tips on how to get what you want by presenting clear and well thought our arguments rather than stomped feet and slammed doors! We will start this unit off with a Cold Task which gives the students a chance to show what they already know!

This may be quite relevant as some of the students are campaigning pretty hard for a class pet, I am a little afraid!

During our reading sessions we will be reading good examples of persuasive texts so the students are seeing the language features and devices in action!

In maths we will begin looking at decimal place value before moving into our money unit...wherever you can if you can have the students think about calculating change (hard I know in this electronic tap and go day and age)...perhaps think about playing shop or paying for chores! Any chance where they can learn the value of money!

We will also be looking at 2D shapes and their properties as well as learning about time...another great chance for some hands on experience to tune them in!

In religion we will begin with our Confirmation Unit as we support the Year 6's on their faith journey!

In Science we are looking at Chemical Sciences...the properties of materials and why certain ones are effective for certain jobs!

We will continue on with our weekly Friendology sessions helping the students to learn the skills and strategies needed to negotiate friendships!

In our Health - Keeping Safe Unit we will be learning about using the correct names for our body parts and how to recognise (in an age appropriate way) abuse and the different forms it can take.

Homework will begin as usual next week following the same format as last term!

Wishing you all a warm and enjoyable next few days and I look forward to seeing you back on deck in Week 3!

Kindest regards,

Caitlin
