Welcome to Week 4!

Good morning parents,

Another glorious weekend filled with sunshine and adulty jobs that are so satisfying! I hope that you have all enjoyed the weekend, especially those that went away for the annual Year 4 family weekend...what an amazing tradition!

I am sure the kids really enjoyed this opportunity to connect to their classmates and other families, get some rides in, yummy lunch and a spot of shopping in Cotton On!

What a surprise to see a small crew checking out the latest addition to Margies!

Our Character Strength that we are focusing on this week is: Love of Learning.

This is a super important skill as those for whom this is a strength have an amazing capacity to engage and encourage and inspire others around them.

When this one came up, it prompted me to think about what I have learnt lately...I realised it is lots of pop culture things, mostly associated with my own children as I try (and I emphasise...TRY!) to keep up with what they are into in a non-try hard way!

A few reminders for this week...

Wellbeing Week - This week marks the first of our OLC Wellbeing Week. There will be a focus each day on a different kind of activity that can help to promote positive wellbeing...as we know exercising, eating and sleeping well are all super important ways to keep us feeling happy and healthy on the inside as well as the outside.

We will be completing a variety of activities over the week to help prompt the students to think about what they like to do and offer them strategies for when they are feeling a little low in their wellbeing.

  • On Monday, Miss Isobel Christie has very kindly offered her yoga skills to run a session with each class - Students to wear sports uniform please.
  • On Wednesday, Mrs Heather Starr will be running a Sound therapy session with both Year 4 classes.
  • On Friday, students are asked to wear their favourite T-Shirt that makes them feel good - it can be a band, a colour or one with a positive message on it...up to them! If they can wear their regular sports bottom halves please!
Speed Racers - I popped in today after being absent for Thursday/Friday of last week to check them out and the students have done an amazing job!

I was so sorry to miss their building session but I am super excited to check out their testing session which will happen on Thursday this week!

Head Lice - Cue everyone start to scratch their heads...it has come to my attention only recently that this seems to be a bit of an ongoing issue for many parents.

If I can please ask that you let me know if your child has come down with them so that I can ask everyone to do a quick check.

If you can treat it as soon as possible, we are all grateful!

Similarly with things like tummy bugs, if you can make sure that your child is symptom free for 12 hours before returning them to school. This helps to break the cycle and keep everyone healthy.

Leading Wellbeing Final Day Presentation - On Wednesday this week I will be absent as I will be in Perth presenting to my fellow Leading Wellbeing cohort...this presentation will showcase the work that we have undertaken at school and to share and gather ideas from other schools in this space.

Mrs Gemma Sorgiovanni will be in class for me on this day.

PAT Assessments - Over the next week, I will be catching up any students that may have missed their assessments due to absence. Once again, can I please ask for your support in making sure that your child is bringing their laptop to school each day with sufficient charge to last the school day.

Additionally, any students that required additional testing for extension or revision purposes will also be completing them this week.

Homework for Week 4...

Homework has been a bit of a challenge the last few weeks and as a parent, please know that I am right there with you!

Just to reiterate, your child needs to bring in all elements of their homework fully completed and signed on Friday mornings.

Failure to do so will result in your child working through their break times to complete the assigned work.

I mixed up the grid a couple of weeks ago to freshen it up with some input from the students, but just a reminder:
  • Reading - 10-15 minutes each night
  • Spelling - LCWC + 1 set of good quality, appropriately punctuated, neatly written sentences.
  • Times Tables - break this up into sections to complete each night or do it all at once depending on your family schedule.
  • Grid Activities - 4 boxes per week.
  • HASS Wanted Posters - These are due in for Mrs Meyer on Thursday 4th Nov.
Wishing you all a fantastic week 4!

Caitlin
