Week 8 Update
Good afternoon,
What a weekend...how good is the sun and heat but not the march flies!! I have had a lovely weekend away with the family down in Margaret River as a motivator for getting my reports completed.
Our day started with a great coffee from Hot Choc (obvs!) before we headed off for an epic mountain bike tour with Margaret River Mountain Bike Tours...heading through Boranup Forest, how lucky are we!
I had never been mountain biking before but now I certainly get the fascination...I will say though, thank goodness for e-bikes.
How fun are they?! It was technical and scary and hot but so much fun...felt like a kid again! There were a couple of hairy moments where I got a little over confident and I am grateful I'm not sporting any other injuries besides the march fly bites!
After getting a little dusty and dirty we headed off to Gnarawary Cabins for the night...like half the town we headed down to watch the sun go down at Prevelly. What a beautiful spot!
This was a lovely recharge for the next couple of weeks which are shaping up to be busy...of course!
A few reminders for the coming week...
Character Strength of the Week - Our character strength this week is self-regulation.
This is a great one to focus on coming into the last couple of weeks of term as the kids and us adults all start to feel the weariness of the end of term approaching.
Over the last couple of terms we have been practicing a lot of different self-regulation strategies...ask your child which is their favourite and perhaps incorporate this into their nightly routine...I have a particular meditation from the Moonly App on repeat and it definitely helps me!
Discuss ways they can use their favourite strategy in class to help them build their skills in this tricky area.
St Vinnie's Appeal - A huge thank you to those families that have already made a donation...it is gratefully received.
If you have some spare Christmas treats to spare, we would love to add them to our hampers!
Library Books - If you can please ask your child to make sure that they are checking in for any library books that may be hiding on their shelves. Mrs Kemp is currently going through her lists so you may receive an individual message from her. Thank you!
The Season of Advent - We celebrated the beginning of the season of Advent yesterday.
Advent is a period of spiritual preparation in which many Christians make themselves ready for the coming, or birth of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
Celebrating Advent typically involves a season of prayer, fasting, and repentance, followed by anticipation, hope, and joy.
We celebrate Advent not only by thanking God for Christ's first coming to Earth as a baby, but also for his presence among us today through the Holy Spirit, and in preparation and anticipation of his final coming at the end of the age.
Christmas Concert - A reminder that this is on Tuesday 7th December beginning at 5.30pm.
The theme for the end of year concert dress is ‘Casual Christmas Wear’. Christmas colours, t-shirts and Christmas accessories are all perfect for the occasion.
The Year 4’s are also welcome to add some country flair to their outfit such as an Akubra style hat or even a Christmas coloured flanno!
Please note that members of the choir are asked to wear white with any Christmas accessories they would like to add.
International Day of Disability - Friday, December 3 is International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD).
More than 1 billion people experience disability, and this figure is predicted to rise, due in part to population ageing and an increase in the prevalence of noncommunicable diseases.
While disability correlates with disadvantage, not all people with disabilities are equally disadvantaged. Much depends on the context in which they live, and whether they have equal access to health, education and employment, among others.
We will be discussing this in class over the week and this may be a great time to discuss this further over the dinner table.
Wishing you all a fantastic week 8!
Caitlin
