Welcome to Week 5!

Good afternoon!

Can you believe that it is Week 5 already! I swear it was Week 3 of Term 2 about 5 minutes ago! Hopefully the weekend has been restful and given your families a chance to recharge and reconnect ready for another great week!

There was lots happening last week...celebrating our first OLC Wellbeing Week was fantastic and hopefully gave the students some ideas about things they can do to help ensure they are feeling happy and good on the inside and able to cope a little better when things feel difficult or hard to overcome!

This was the short and sweet theme of our assembly from Friday and I feel the kids nailed it!

I have uploaded the video to our 4DEL Teams page if you missed it or wish to re-watch. The kids did an awesome job and really embraced the message and did us all proud!

Over this week, we also had the opportunity to participate in some guided breathing sessions as a whole school which brought a lovely calming energy to the day.

As a class we also had a mindful eating session with our crunch n sip, this gave us all an opportunity to slow down and enjoy and show gratitude for the food that we were eating.

The students also had a yoga session with Miss Christie which they enjoyed and a session on sound healing with Mrs Starr which they loved...another great chance for them to have different experiences...how lucky are we!

Hopefully in the students hearing the messages and having the chance to participate in the various activities may help them to choose activities that add to their wellbeing and help smooth the rough edges of the tough times.

The week finished beautifully with a fantastic Silent Disco on Friday night, I am pretty sure it was one of the coolest I have ever been to! It felt like a dance party just for me!!

I know it was for the kids but if you can't beat em then you've got to join them!

Unfortunately for Mr Lee, I think he took this too literally and it appears that he has injured his Achilles in an epic move from the first disco! Fingers crossed for him his healing journey goes swiftly and the damage is not too severe.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, we are so blessed to have such a supportive parent group working so hard for our kids and teachers!

On Wednesday of last week I attended my final day of the Leading Wellbeing Program. This was a showcase day on which as a cohort we were able to reflect on what we had learnt about how to lead in the Wellbeing space (loads!) and I was fortunate to present a short presentation sharing all that we had been doing over the year which was great.

This opportunity to hear from other schools was awesome and I picked up quite a few nuggets of gold that I will be sharing with the Wellbeing Team at our next meeting to look at incorporating for 2022!

Our character strength for this week as a whole school focus is Perseverance...one of the big ones!

This character strength can show up in many ways and one that I definitely see on a regular basis in class.

As a family discuss times where you have seen your child or partner show perseverance or watch a movie, read a book where this may be a strong theme.

A few reminders for this week...

Reading Assessments - Please note that I will be out of class tomorrow as I will be completing Reading Assessments with the students. Miss Holly Morrow will be in for me.

This will be posted to See Saw for you to check out once all assessments have been completed, so keep your eyes peeled!

Sands of Time Investigation - Last Wednesday the students under Mr Danaher's guidance began their investigation in which they are asked to create a sand timer that can accurately record 1 minute of time!

The students will continue working on this investigation this week and will begin creating their sand timers in class tomorrow.

They are asked to bring in their containers and then create and test their timers in class tomorrow.

If you can please remind your child about this.

They will be given plenty of time to create so please remind your child not to pre-build or create and then just put it together.

This information has also been placed on One Note for their reference or if your child was absent on this day.

This will be posted on See Saw as our post for the Maths Learning Area once I have completed your child's assessment rubric.

Free Dress Day - Leeuwin - As winners of the first half of the term's token tally, Leeuwin will be able to free dress on Wednesday this week...Great job guys!

Remembrance Day - We will be coming together as a whole school to commemorate this special occasion this week on Thursday 11th November beginning at 10.50am.

All parents are warmly invited to attend if you are able.

This week in our Reading Groups in

particular we will be reading a variety of texts on this topic to help the students connect to and understand the importance of this day.

Fingers crossed BoM has the forecast right and we can look forward to some higher temperatures in the coming days!

Have a fantastic week guys and I look forward to seeing you around!

Kind regards,

Caitlin
