Week 2, Term 4

Good afternoon,

Welcome to the week! I hope that you enjoyed the weekend, especially those that got to see Mr Danaher in action at the Quiz Night on Saturday...from all accounts, it was quite the show and I am sad that I missed it!

The pirate video I was sent will just have to do!

On Wednesday, we had a fantastic afternoon down at our Cultural Space with Josh Whiteland listening and learning about our area.

After spending some time cleaning up the space and exploring, we looked at the different changes we are seeing in our environment, particularly the plants, animals and changes in conditions.

We also learnt about some of the traditional tools that were used in hunting and the children enjoyed sketching the symbols on them whilst Josh explained what they meant...we then had the pleasure of listening to Josh play the didgeridoo and drums whilst the girls and then the boys learnt and performed a traditional dance.

The students were very curious and respectful and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon!

As my last blog mentioned, we welcome Miss Alix Cain into class on Thursday for observation before beginning her formal prac this week.

Miss Cain will begin teaching classes this week under my supervision and her teaching load will increase through the coming weeks to being almost full time. This is a valuable opportunity for her to learn more about how classroom and school environments work in a real life setting.

We would like to wish her a Happy Birthday for yesterday!

On Friday, we had a fantastic day exploring the St Mary MacKillop campus...the students had a chance to practice some of their woodworking skills in making a pencil holder before heading off to make a delicious smoothie.

We rounded out the afternoon with a session with Mrs Hall making a pet rock...hopefully your child brought this home to show you!

Your child will also have brought home an enrolment pack for you to peruse, it is important that if you are considering SMMC you will need to submit an application...this applies to all schools in the area so please make sure that you are considering this!

The SMMC students were super kind in showing us around and answering all the students questions and showing them what was what!

I took many more photos from both Wednesday and Friday, I will place these on Teams for the students to look at with you!

We are back to more normal programming this week with our only change being the Interschool Carnival on Thursday. We wish all those participating a very big good luck, please check your note for departure and return to school times!

Absentee Notes - Last week, I sent home some absentee notes with your child if relevant. Can you please make sure that they are filled in, signed and then returned to class as soon as possible. It is important that all absences from school are accounted for.

Additionally, if you're taking any time off in the coming weeks, please do let me know. We will be completing our end of term assessments in the coming weeks.

Homework...

Homework was completed well which was pleasing to see, if you can just check that your child is bringing you their reading logs to be signed and their times tables have been accurately marked.

If you would like, your child is also able to access their Mathletics tasks on their laptop at home.

These tasks are aligned with what we are covering in class and are a great way to revise, consolidate or extend their understanding of our class work.

Thank you for the very warm welcome I have received, it is so lovely to be back!

Have a fantastic week, good luck to everyone who begins basketball this week...may the bouncing balls not bother you at all!

Kindest regards.

Mrs Delane
