Welcome to Week 6
Good morning parents,
Welcome to another fantastic week here in 4DEL!
As you are aware we begin swimming lessons today, our lesson begins at 12.05 and goes for 50 minutes. We are on a pretty tight transportation schedule but I am confident by the end of the week we will be running like a well oiled machine.
A massive thank you to the families that attended our Year 4 Eucharist Commitment and Family Mass on Saturday night, it was really lovely to see all of you standing at the front of the church pledging your commitment to support your child during their preparations to receive this very special sacrament.
Swimming Lessons - As mentioned, they begin today. Students are to wear their sports uniform including sneakers to and from school. We will give the students time to get changed after recess so on the particularly warm days they don't have to wear their rashies underneath their shirts.
If you can please make sure that your son is wearing his black school shorts over his boardies, students are expected to be in the correct sports uniform.
Hair Cuts - As the back to school hair cuts start to grow our, can I please remind you of our uniform polciy in relation to hair styles. These are applicable to both boys and girls.
Our uniform policy states that hairstyles need to conform to the following standards:
• Hair is to be clean, off the face and appropriately groomed and combed - if your child is having to regularly push their hair out of their face it will need to be clipped back or tied up before coming to school.
• Hair (for boys) is to be cut to collar length.
• For hygiene reasons, hair below collar length must be tied up. No coloured hair accessories please.
We have had a great time in our writing sessions, looking at the different features of a really good setting description, we are now looking to apply those skills to writing a character description! From here will be looking at how to build a plot and structure our narratives and then the students will finally be free to begin planning and drafting their narratives...stay tuned!
In our STEM lessons, the students had a FANTASTIC time working on their bridges. I popped in and out to grab students for testing and it was amazing to see the buzz and collaboration happening as well as the joy on their faces as they tested their bridges!
During our Keeping Safe lesson last week, we discussed the importance of recognising and labelling the various parts of our body where our warning signs appear.
The students took some time to identify on a body outline where their warning signs appear...it is also helpful for them to realise that all our of warning signs are different and tuning into them is very important.
Our reading group sessions are proving to be the highlight of each day with the students particularly enjoying their reader's theatre sessions with Mr Danaher and Mrs Derickx...this is a great space for the students to go to town with lots of expression and drama!
Have a great week!
Caitlin

OUR LEARNING
We have had a great time in our writing sessions, looking at the different features of a really good setting description, we are now looking to apply those skills to writing a character description! From here will be looking at how to build a plot and structure our narratives and then the students will finally be free to begin planning and drafting their narratives...stay tuned!
In maths we are looking at different multiplication strategies of doubling, split strategy, compensation and doubling and halving. It is helpful for students to have a variety of mental strategies that they can use when multiplying and the goal from this is that they will learn a strategy or two that they can use flexibly.
In our STEM lessons, the students had a FANTASTIC time working on their bridges. I popped in and out to grab students for testing and it was amazing to see the buzz and collaboration happening as well as the joy on their faces as they tested their bridges!
