The End is Nigh!
Good afternoon 4DEL parents!
What a weekend it has been! I am sure that you guys like me, have been finishing up the winter sport routines...After Friday night football for Tobes, I was super chuffed to watch my daughter's team win their hockey grand final yesterday! The endless round of wind ups loom this week but I am so grateful to all the coaches and managers that spend hours helping my kids to enjoy their sport!
This week's blog comes from the comfort of my couch in front of the fire...jubilant after watching Benny Stratton kick his first goal in 10 years...a win for the Hawks means my house will be happy today!
REMINDERS - WEEK 10
Maths Assessment - Money - We will be finalising our unit looking at money with review sessions on Monday and Tuesday before our assessment on Wednesday 23rd September.
Mission Markets - Are on this Thursday 24th September, can I ask you to please make sure that you have sent in your fun bag of chocolates and 1 bar by Tuesday at the very latest...thank you to those that have already done so!
Students are to bring a wallet or purse containing no more than $10 and a reusable tote or plastic bag to carry any purchases.
Faction Tokens and WWWF Winners - Naturaliste and Meelup are able to wear free dress on Thursday as their reward!
St Mary MacKillop Notes - Please make sure these have been returned, all students attend this excursion whether they will be attending SMMC or not...it is always a great fun day!
Science Presentations - These begin tomorrow, if you can support your child to make sure they bring their bits and pieces needed on their allocated day please.Pupil Free Day - Don't forget that you get an extra day off on Friday! The Year 3-6 teachers will be having a session with Maths guru Ben Saulsman.
Uthando Dolls - We would love some more volunteers to help us next term. We are looking for 3-5 parents per class each week. If you are unable to make it each week, that is absolutely fine...if you can only make one we would love to have you! Dads, this includes you too!
I will be collecting the dolls from HQ on the holidays and we will be looking for a number of parents who have a sewing machine to come together or take some dolls home to start Step 1 of the dolls...we need them sewn together first, before the kids get them to stuff and then create their features and outfits.
Ideally this will happen Tuesday or Wednesday of our first week back so that they are ready to begin on our first Thursday. If this is a way that you could help, we would be most grateful!
This project is incredibly worthwhile and the kids absolutely love it...it is a wonderful to give to those less fortunate. It does require a massive amount of parental support though to make it happen.
Currently both classes have 3 parents each that have reached out and let me know that they are able to help. As mentioned above, we need 3-5 parents/grandparents each week to help the students. No great sewing skills are required...if I can do it, you can do it, I promise!
Please send me an email if you are able to help - caitlin.delane@cewa.edu.au
OUR LEARNING - WEEK 9/10
The past couple of weeks we have been looking at and creating different types of poetry, the students have created a haiku, shape and acrostic poem and looked at the different kinds of literary devices used by poets such as alliteration and allusion. The students published an acrostic poem about their favourite person...we had poems about Hermione, Dumbledore, Cathy Freeman, Josh Kennedy, Cristiano Ronaldo and Steve from Minecraft...they are great! I look forward to welcoming you back into class soon to check out all of our amazing work!
In our Design Technology sessions, the students have been working hard on their food or fibre investigation. They have learnt a lot about the different conditions needed to grow their food or fibre as well productions locations in Australia. They will have their posters complete soon and up for display in class.
In Religion, we have been looking at special celebrations. This ties in with our Eucharist unit in which the students understand that receiving the Eucharist is a special invitation to a special meal to be shared with Jesus which is a beautiful connection!
In our Health - Keeping Safe lesson last week, we all enjoyed a 'Warm Fuzzies Circle' this is a great bonding experience in which we all pass around a piece of paper that has our names on it and we write down something that we like or appreciate about that person. The idea behind this was to give a compliment that was not about appearance...we have lots of chats about how as a person we are so much more than how we look!
The usual for this week...all homework is due in Thursday due to the short week.
- Spelling - LCWC each night and 3 words into sentences. Thank you so much for making sure that you are marking their words each night!!!
- Tables practice
- Champion Life - a challenge to be completed twice a week.
- Reading - out loud 10-15 minutes each night
- Additional Homework - Science Research Project
